TODAY: ANCIENTS COULD HAVE

I was reading from Around the year with Emmit Fox about the idea the ancients could have had all the modern inventions we have today if they would have been Spiritually and mentally ready to do so. For example, the Romans could have had the telephone; the Greeks could have had the cinema; the Babylonians could have had the automobile had they been Spiritual and mentally ready. The laws of nature were the same in those ages as in ours, the same materials were in the ground, but the minds and spirits of the Ancients were not ready.

How about the Ancients need for Alcoholics Anonymous? From what I hear the world was in need of A.A. long before 1935. There were some attempts throughout history but nothing worked for one reason or another until along came A.A. I can identify with having a great need before February 6, 1957 when I made a move toward sobriety. I made many attempts to stop drinking and stay stopped but nothing worked for me. Then along came A.A. I soon found Alcoholics Anonymous is not for people who need it, but for those who want.

The great news is A.A. is easy to find if we choose to make a meeting, we have A.A. meetings all over the world. Sponsoring or just Twelve Stepping Julius Caesar could put an entirely new twist on alcoholism being a terminal illness. It is no longer a high-risk venture to join A.A. or sponsor or Twelve Step another. However Thirteen Stepping can be a high-risk venture to your sobriety. There is one requirement for A.A. membership, a desire to stop drinking. Thus, unlike the Ancients many of us were ready for the advent of Alcoholics Anonymous. A.A.'s time came in 1935 and is ever growing more love, wise and useful. Come; join us in a most fulfilling way of life.
