042 What About Powerlessness?

"Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a Power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power Greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where and how were we to find this Power? Well, that's exactly what this book is about. Its main object is to enable you to find a Power greater than yourself which will solve your problem." (Alcoholics Anonymous p45) What a great promise as we can only take ourselves just so far with our present understanding. The mind that helped get us here cannot take us beyond our present illusions. First, we did not create ourselves nor do we preserve ourselves alone and unaided.

There is within the least of us an Infinite Power that did create each of us as an individual with a purpose and is giving us whatever we need to carry out that purpose. Without this Omnipresence within, around and through each of us we would not be able to live, move and have our being. I believe the main purpose for our Twelve Step Program is to awaken us to that Reality and to give each one of us everyone and everything we need to carry our His Will.

I believe our Father created each of us in His image and likeness. This means to me that we do have within us the power to co-create or "make up" our experience of this life. I believe that we co-create our experiences when we are in harmony or conscious union with our Creator. I believe that we "make up" the illusions of our separation from our Creator and all others as if we were alone and unaided. Besides, it is just that belief in separation that we experience Powerlessness, and that is the big lie we have bought into. Our Program can awaken us to a place where we have always been, within our Father's Omnipresence, Omnipotence and Omniscience, in this partnership we have all we need to do what we came here to do. I am truly grateful to realize my powerlessness, the inability to do much of anything of value until that Spiritual transformation. When our Higher Power’s transforming grace took one of my defects and changed it into an asset I then found myself experiencing joy, happiness and freedom.

Do you recall when that shift from powerlessness to the ability to live, move and have your being free of any dis-ease?
