194 A Life Time Of Selfishness?

Al Kohallek’s sponsor answers Al’s question about selfishness. "Selfishness – self-centeredness! That, we think is the root of our troubles. Driven by a hundred forms of fear, self-delusion, self-seeking and self-pity,…" (Alcoholics Anonymous page 62) "…We were now at Step Three."(Alcoholics Anonymous page 63) At this point we had not gotten to the condition and causes of our disease, troubles. "If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through." The promises follow (Alcoholics Anonymous pages 83-84) When we reach Step Ten – "We have entered the world of the Spirit. Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness" …Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them." (Alcoholics Anonymous page 84) By the mercy and grace of our Higher Power we are no long bound by the negativity. Our major defects transformed into working assets, our self-centeredness now transformed into enlightened-self-interest. Now I love being sober, I love sharing myself through our AA Program, I love this Spiritual way of life, this is enlightened-self-interest. If stuck on page 62 of our Big Book, start the Program over, this time be fearless and thorough from the start. Rejoin us on this wonderful way of life.

2. We do not have to drink or do drugs to start over, are you willing to do so?

3. Would you be willing to start over here and now? Just do it.
