348 No Double standards

"You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." [Kahlil Gibran] I love that writing; it has been a benchmark for me for many years. Learning how to practice that principle by living it 24/7 is a lifetime job calling for Divine guidance. Perhaps never competed because our Loving Source is without limits. At one time I thought that giving was showing off or a duty. Am I giving away what I want or am I giving what I no longer want; like clearing up a little clutter? Do I measure what I give? Am I giving away what I really desire? If I desire nothing, I’ll give nothing; so far that has not been the case. I always want love, sometimes well disguised. In giving the love and understanding I want will take off my mask. We can always give silently until we feel safe. Our AA Program teaches us to give away what we want to keep, or what we want to grow and expand. A primary principle of giving is this; if I give love and understanding to others, I will believe that others will give me love and understanding. If I forgive another for a wrong, I will believe that others will forgive me my wrongs. Others may or may not but I believe they will because I did it. There are no double standards, other than the ones we make up. Come let us forgive one another and love one another. Thy Love be done.
