 031 Mission Element – Communicate

I have spent much of my life trying to learn how to communicate better. Because I could not read when I came to the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous, I thought I could overcome all my problems if only I could read well. I could find a Higher Power I dearly needed. I had heard others talk about their experience and understanding of their Higher Power and I long for an experience like theirs. If only I were a wordsmith or a poet I would have the verbal skills to make a good difference. I just knew I would be able to express my love and gratitude. I worked hard studying for more than a year and a half memorizing words and their meaning. I was unable to learn the traditional way by phonics. I just knew that I would be able to communicate my thoughts and feelings, but I always felt emptiness no matter how hard I tried. Each time I had a Spiritual experience I realize how limited verbal skills were. I now realize all the truly important things of life are being communicated. I needed to learn how to pay attention to the Presence in the present moment. The Father within us is communicating with us in His first language, silence, which is deeper than words. We intuitively know when we are in or out of contact with Him. Our physical body and world tells us of its needs. I mind tells us when it is in harmony with its own thoughts and ideas, making up illusions or co-creating. Our emotions tell us the difference between love and fear. The message our relationships tells us is we are in this relationship for purposes learn from it or repeat it. I can hear many say that is all nonsense or idealistic, life is not that simple. The personal "reality" we made up or went along with cannot handle the simple fact that we did not create ourselves nor do we sustain it alone and unaided. There is now and has always been Omnipresence, Omniscience and Omnipotent Source within us doing the works we call life. Let us return to where we have always been in the presence in His Presence and He will teach us all we need to know about communicating. Thy Love, Thy Will be done.

Random Awakening

Al Kohallek asked his sponsor if he heard about the nine ever-day elements of love. Lou-is replied, when I came into the Program so many members of our group were reading a book written a longtime ago. The title was The Greatest Thing in the World, by Henry Drummond (1851 – 1897). He listed what many believed to be the greatest thing or good. In his judgment like Paul’s in 1 Corinthians 13 was love. I will share a little of my experience for each one of these elements of love for I believe our Program is a way of life and that life is love.
